Overview
Mahabalipuram is located on the Coromandel Coast which faces the Bay of Bengal, in Kancheepuram district in Tamil Nadu. The town is located around 60 km south from the city of Chennai. This historical town is renowned for Mahabalipuram Group of Monuments. It one of the most popular heritage structure of South India, which was establised during the 7th and 8th centuries by Pallava kings. Ii is a World Heritage site by UNESCO, which was listed in 1984. ‘Mahabalipuram Weekend Getaway’ will give you the chance to explore the popular structures such as the Shore Temple, Five Rathas, Thirukadalmallai Temple and Sculpture Museum of Mahabalipuram. Apart from this also enjoy the boat rides in the Bay of Bengal.
Itinerary
Day 01: Chennai - Mahabalipuram (By Road- 61.2kms – 2.1 hrs by road)
Morning pick-up from Airport/railway station, meet our representative, then drive to Mahabalipuram. Upon arrival at Mahabalipuram, check into your pre-booked hotel. Take a rest for a while. Post lunch, proceed for city tour of Mahabalipuram including Shore Temple, which is the oldest structure dated back from the 8th century AD.
Then visit Five Rathas, which is known as Pancha Pandava Rathas, contains five Rathas, and chariots, dating from the 7th century. After sightseeing, return back to the hotel.
Overnight stay at Mahabalipuram.
Day 02: Mahabalipuram
Today after breakfast, proceed for sightseeing tour of Mahabalipuram including Thirukadalmallai Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu also explore Sculpture Museum.
Explore the beautiful sandy beach of Mahabalipuram. Here you can enjoy Boat rides in the Bay of Bengal with life guards, fishing trips to the sea & Turtle walk at the sea shore.
Evening Return back to the hotel. Overnight stay at Mahabalipuram.
Day 03: Mahabalipuram - Chennai
Today is the last day of the tour. After breakfast, drive back to Chennai. On arrival in Chennai transfer to advised location or Airport.
