Overview

Maharashtra, is known as a land of valor Marathas. It lies in the western and central parts of the country. It extends over the Sahayadri mountains; a vast stretch of 720 kilometers of the Arabian Sea coast. The major tourist places in Maharashtra are Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Mahabaleshwar etc. It was originated on May 1, 1960. Marathi is the mother tongue of this state. India is surrounded by the Arabian sea in the west, Gujarat in the north. Madhya Pradesh is in the east and Karnataka as well as Andhra Pradesh in the south.

Pune - The home of Osho

Pune, the second biggest city of Maharashtra is the home to the Maratha leader known as Shivaji. The Osho Ashram is situated in Pune. The Shanwarawada Palace and Raja Kelkar Museum draw the attraction of several tourists. Gandhi National Memorial and Aga Khan Palace are also the places to visit. The Ptaleshwar Temple is the most popular temple dedicated to goddess Parvati.  There is a well-known Muslim shrine, the Qamarali Darvesh Bund gardens on the bank of river mula-mutha known for their natural beauty.

Nashik - The Temple City

It is one of the most important cities of Northern Maharashtra. Nashik, in Maharashtra, is situated at a distance of 200 km from Mumbai (Bombay) as well as Pune.

The temples and ghats of the pious river godaweri give this place a remarkable holy place for Hindus all over the world. The other holy places are Trimbakeshwar, Vani, Shirdi, Pandavlena etc. are also the major tourist attractions.
