Overview

The State, West Bengal is popularly known as The Royal Bengal City. The name Bengal has been derived from the Dravidian  word “Bang”.  The mother tongue of this state is mainly Bengali speaking and their main festival is ‘Durga Puja’ The other languages that are spoken are Hindi, Tribe language, Urdu, Nepalis, Assamese, English and others. The State has completed three hundred years of its establishment and has successfully adopted the modern advancements while retaining its traditions. River that flows through the state is the Ganges and the Teesta. The staple food of West Bengal is Rice.  Rabindranath Tagore and Swami Vivekananda were two most famous and popular person all over the world. The State’s bordering countries are Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh. One-tenth of the land area of the state is occupied by forest and is rich in flora and fauna. Maximum people of West Bengal live in a village area, where Rural Tourism plays a vital role in the tourism sector of both State and National.

Kolkata:

Kolkata, The City of Joy  is the capital city of West Bengal. It is located near the bank of the Hooghly River. Kolkata is the hub city of the state West Bengal. The city’s main attractions are – Howrah Bridge, Victoria Memorial, Dakshineswar Kali Temple, Nicco Park, Eden Garden etc.

 Darjeeling:

Darjeeling is a beautiful hill station in the state of West Bengal. This city is also known as the Queen of the Hill Station. From here one can view the glimpse of Kanchenjunga Mountain. The main attractions of Darjeeling are – Tea Garden, Tiger Hill, Mirik, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, Batasia Loop, Monastry etc. The other attractions are the Toy trains, Trekking and so on.

Midnapore:

Midnapore is a district of the state West Bengal. This place is famous for historical places and beaches of West Bengal.  The main attractions of Midnapore are – Digha Beach, Chandaneswar, Jhargram, Dantan, Tamluk, Garbeta, Nayagram, Malancha, Khirpai, Mandarmoni Beach etc. 

Murshidabad:

Murshidabad is a popular city situated near the river Bhagirathi. This city is famous for Mangoes and Litchi. Most of the people are Muslim community and few are from other communities. The main attractions are - Hazarduari Palace, Nizamat Imambara, Katra Mosque, Murshidabad Silk etc.

Bankura:

Bankura is a Cultural and Heritage place where many monuments are found. It is famous for crafts, handicrafts, terra-cotta, handlooms and so on. It is a district which is also known as Temple City. The main attractions are – Susunia hill, Biharinath Hill, Joyrambati, Mukutmonipur, Bhisnupur which includes Jore Banglow, Rsmanch, Madanmohan Mandir, Shyam Roy Mandir (Panchcura) & Chhinnmasta Mandir etc.

Nadia:

Nadia is a district of the  West Bengal State. There are many small and big Villages under this district. Main tourist places are – Krishna Nagar which includes – Mayapur, ISKON Temple, Nabadwip, etc.
