Overview

Orissa lies between West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh. It had had the dynasty kingdom of Kalinga, the great Mauryan emperor. It has hilly terrain to coastal plains and river valley, crisscrossed by the Brahmani, the Mahanadi and the Bansadhara rivers. Mahanadi and its tributaries cross through this region and create a large and fertile delta. The tourist places in Orissa mainly include the capital city Bhubaneswar, Puri and Konark.

Bhubaneswar – Orissa’s Capital City

It is the capital of Orissa. It has a direct connection with the major cities of India. Its name originated from the Sanskrit word Tribhuvaneshwara which stands for lord Shiva Parashurameshwara Temple is known for its architecture. The Vital deal is influenced by Buddhist cave architecture. Interior of temple has the image of Chamunda. Mukteshwar temple shows the influence of the, Buddha and Jain style of architecture. The tribal museum deals with the various as pacts of the tribal life and culture in Orissa.

Konark - The Sun Temple

Konark is situated in the eastern state of Orissa at a distance of around 65 kms from Bhubaneswar and 35 kms from Puri. Crowned as the Black Pagoda. It has the temple of the sun. The sun temple is listed as a World Heritage Site. The structure of the temple resembles a colossal chariot, with 24 wheels, pulled by seven straining horses. The Sun God's chariot also represents the seven days of the week and the 24 hours of the day. The beaches are ideal for sunbathing.
