Overview

This Forest Land, formerly a part of Madhya Pradesh utill1 November, 2000 is now an independent state. It is well known for its abundant treasures of minerals and other natural resources. Bela-Dila of Chhattisgarh is famous for its iron ores. Mostly covered with dense forests, Chhattisgarh is inhabited by Murals, Marias and various other tribes. This state is a great option for the adventure seekers, water sport and pilgrimage due to vast forests, temples waterfalls, and a large variety of flora and fauna. The landmarks of Chhattisgarh include the capital city Raipur, Bhilai Steel Plant, Bela Dila iron ore reserves, Korba’s gold mines and aluminium plant, Bastar, Bilaspur, Chitrakut and several others.

Bastar – The city of tribes

Bastar is a small village situated 20 km away from  Jagdalpur. We can call it a tribal territory as it is home to Murias and Marias, both of which are very colorful and lively tribes, who have been successful in preserving their ancient culture and heritage. This city is blessed with abundant treasures of forest resources and minerals.

The tourist places at Bastar include -

Jagdalpur- Famous for its grand scale celebrations of the colorful festival Dussehra.

 Tirathgarh Falls- the 100 ft high falls.

 Chitrakut Falls- The 96 ft. high falls made by the Indravati river.

 Kutumsar Caves- The five chambered cave having various blind wells except for one which is covered by a sheet of rock,which gives a hollow sound when being struck.

Shiva temple- An old temple at Barsur, having 12 pillars in total.

The Danteshwari Temple-  A beautiful temple at Dantewada.

Chitrakut - A Pilgrim Centre

Chitrakut, one of the most sacred pilgrim centers of north India,expands over a vast area consisting of five villages-Karvi, Sitapur, Nayagaon, Khohi and Kamta. This city marked by forest cover of mixed kind,  is surrounded by the Vindhya  mountain ranges.

Here the most of the tourist hubs are situated along the river Mandakini. The tourist attractions include-

Janaki Kund- It  is a straight stretch of a river which is greenish-blue in color marked by the presence of a series of steps on the left side of the bank.

Ram Ghat- It is a long passage of steps which are cut into banks where the pilgrims perform religious rituals. Its sanctity is compared to Benaras and Rishikesh.

Sphatik Shila- Here there are impressions of Lord Rama's footprints on a large boulder.

Also, there are Hanuman Dhara, Deva Ganga and Sati Anusuya.

How to Reach
  1. By Air- Chhattisgarh has a domestic airport in Raipur, which is connected to all the major cities in the country.
  2. By road-The road network of Chhattisgarh is very good. The major towns and cities of Chhattisgarh are connect with the other parts of the country by the National Highways (NH) 6, 16 and 43. Also, Bus services are available from Raipur for all places of tourist’s interest in the vicinity.
  3. By Rail-There are two major railway stations in Chhattisgarh – Bilaspur and Raipur, which connect the Chhattisgarh to the  major railway stations of India. As Raipur serves as a middle point of the route Mumbai -Howrah (two most important railway stations) it is served by several important trains on a regular basis.
